Behind the Scenes of the UKOVMI Blacksmith Workshop

Whether it’s blacksmithing or any other kind of craftsmanship, the public usually only gets to see the finished products intended for sale. Rarely is there a chance to peek inside the workshop where everything happens and to see what the preparation and production of a product actually involves.

That’s why we decided to open our doors and invite you to take a look behind the scenes at the blacksmith workshop of UKOVMI.

Before the blacksmith takes the iron in hand, our experts discuss all the details of the order with the client. They help create the design, take measurements, prepare the technical drawings, and then pass these on to the workshop, where the production process begins.

The UKOVMI blacksmith workshop is no longer a small village smithy as depicted in old movies and fairy tales. Nor does the forge resemble the one from the children’s folk song: “The blacksmith strikes, the bellows blow…”

Like everything else, this craft has evolved. Today, we use a gas forge and the best modern technologies. But the foundation remains the same: the blacksmith transforms raw iron into unique pieces using fire. They put themselves into every creation — without artistic sense, perseverance, and precision, it wouldn’t be possible.

The manufacturing process isn’t done by blacksmiths alone. Depending on the order, welders and other specialists are involved.

The finished products are surface-treated depending on whether they are intended for indoor or outdoor use. Outdoor products undergo sandblasting and galvanizing to prevent corrosion. Most products are finished with paint and patina or polished and varnished.

Once completed, the products go to the end consumer — smaller items go to stores, warehouses, or are shipped to clients. Larger and heavier pieces that require installation are delivered and professionally mounted by our team.

If you thought until now that the team in a blacksmith company consists only of men, we will prove you wrong. It’s true the work is physically demanding, but women bring finesse to it. In our studio, they take care of finance, advertising, sales, cleanliness, decorations, coziness, and good spirits.

On your way east, make a stop and come visit us.
